Reviewing takes

Rendering gives you takes. Reviewing is where you listen, pick the one that ships and lock the line.

The line panel

Click any line in the Script tab to open its panel. From top to bottom:

  • Transcript, style note, character and writer notes. Edit and save. Changing the transcript, style or character makes a rendered line stale.
  • Lint warnings for unknown tags and stage directions; see the linter.
  • Render take renders one more take; 3 takes renders three.
  • Approve appears once the line is rendered.
  • Takes for the language you're viewing, newest first, each with a waveform, play button, duration and download button.

In a multilingual project, switch the Script tab's language filter to review a translation. The panel then shows that language's text and takes, with the source text for reference.

Picking the take that ships

One take per line and language is selected. It's marked in the take list, and it's what the export, the manifest and the engine plugins deliver.

  • The first take a line gets is selected automatically.
  • Later takes are added alongside it. Press Use on a take to make it the one that ships.
  • Deleting the selected take selects the newest remaining one instead.

Approving lines

Approve a line once its selected take is right. Approval does two things:

  • Stale and draft renders skip it, so a big render pass never replaces signed-off audio.
  • The approved count on the project dashboard tracks how far through review you are.

Only rendered lines can be approved. If you edit an approved line's text, style or character, it goes back to stale and needs another review.

To approve many lines at once, tick them in the Script tab and press Approve in the selection bar. Lines that aren't rendered yet are skipped and reported. In a translation view, the same button approves that language's takes.

j and k work when you're not typing in a field. You can also drag the handle to reorder lines.

Bulk edits

Tick lines in the Script tab to get the selection bar:

  • Approve rendered lines.
  • Assign character to recast many lines at once.
  • Move to scene, including a new scene.
  • Delete lines. This removes their translations and every take in every language, and can't be undone.

Reassigning a character marks rendered lines stale.
